Matters of Life and Death

13th November 2014. In collaboration with the British Malaysian Society, ICUMS hosted a talk on “Matters of Life and Death”, which was delivered by Dr Hugh Edward Montgomery. The talk covered how a person’s genetic make-up could influence a person’s response to challenges and therefore their survival rate.

Many variables and scenarios were explored during the event, all of which could potentially determine whether someone would live or die in a challenging situation. The speaker himself kept the talk light hearted and engaging throughout, with many relevant links to the day to day lives of students. Even the occasional pun was thrown in to keep the audience tuned in.

This was reciprocated by a flurry of questions and topics of discussion from the audience, which resulted in some interesting debate. The evening was a great experience and provided some amazing insight into a field that is only touched on by a few here at Imperial.
